The Benefits of Tai Chi

Many people have now heard about Tai-Chi but only in general terms. Here is a deeper insight to its' many health benefits. A lot of research has been conducted around the world about this and all the conclusions have been very positive. So regular practice of Tai-Chi can help promote better sleep, it is a low impact exercise, helps improve balance and prevent falls, can reduce the risk of multiple falls by nearly half, improves flexibility, strengthens breathing and heart health, can help people with arthritis, by improving joint symptoms, can help strengthen bones as in osteoarthritis, can relieve joint pain and stiffness, promotes positive behaviours such as a healthier diet and better stress management, it is very relaxing and calming, it is a moving meditation and helps to reduce stress and anxiety, it can help reduce blood pressure, it can help speed up the recovery from illness and operations, heart attacks and cancer, strengthens tendons which helps support knee joints, can help with type 2 diabetes, fibromyalgia, Parkinson's, MS, tension headaches, migraines, helps strengthen the immune system, improves cardiovascular and respiratory health, this low intensity form of exercise helps improve both body and mind by bringing them into balance, this then helps integrate our spiritual aspect bringing mind, body and spirit into balance,

Tai-Chi is a very gentle moving meditation. The slow movements help to slow down a busy mind. This has a very calming and relaxing effect. The mind and emotions and body are all deeply interlinked. Held on negative emotions, shock, trauma and stresses get stuck in the physical body which is generally recognized and accepted as the root cause of many so called "diseases" -a state of dis-ease or imbalance in the physical body. ( Diet, pollution, etc. are also major contributory factors). These imbalances can be seen as energy blocks. Even pain can be regarded as an energy block.

Through the gentle, slow Tai-Chi movements some of these energy blocks can be released. Tai-Chi aims at re-balancing the mind, body and spirit , thus bringing them into harmony with each other.

This gives the practitioner more energy, better mobility, balance, breathing, posture, positive feelings about his/her self and an ability to cope much better with life`s daily demands/stresses. This is partly achieved through understanding the Taoist philosophy behind the Tai-Chi, how it represents your journey through life and the psychological meanings of certain movements as well.

This leads to much greater self-awareness as you are giving yourself permission to slow down and consequently stand back from the usual situations, dramas and conflicts. So that in a calm state of letting go , peace, balance and harmony, loving positive intentions of change for better, solutions can be put in place.

I currently run 3 Tai-Chi classes per week in Maidstone. Please click the button below for more details about my classes.

Tai Chi Testimonials

I started studying Tai-Chi with Michael a little over three years ago, partly out of curiosity and also as way to relax. The benefits I have found have exceeded my wildest expectations. I have gained physically in strength and suppleness, improved balance and reflexes, but also have developed a mental strength I never thought possible.

I have recently begun learning tai chi with Michael Low. I find Michael to be extremely knowledgeable and instructive and good fun too! The following day after each lesson I am finding myself very calm and centred. What amazes me most about tai chi is that I haven't even got the form worked out yet. Along with Tai chi, Michael takes us through some warm up exercises and chi gong exercises. Put all together and you end up with a wonderful sense of well being.
